AOL & Browser Email

The AOL Problem

  • When you click Submit, if the submission is emailed automatically by the Visual Basic in the spreadsheet, AOL takes the liberty of changing the subject line, changing the name of the attachment, and possibly putting the attachment in a zip file
  • These actions cause the email not to be recognized as payroll at EPS

The Browser Email Problem

  • If the submission is emailed automatically by the Visual Basic in the spreadsheet, email packages run in a browser don't recognize that the email needs to be sent and nothing happens
  • No indication is given that the email is being ignored

Solution 1 – You form the email with a few button clicks

  • You create a new empty message in the email system
  • You fill in the "to:" field, "subject:" field, and attachment file name using Copy and Paste
  • The Copy is done by clicking buttons Copy "to:", Copy "subject:", and Copy "attachment:" in a dialog
  • The Paste is done in the email field with a right click or <Ctrl>v

Solution 2  – Change email clients

Some people find AOL to be overbearing with its treatment of email and would like to make more of the choices themselves. And browser based systems have advantages and disadvantages. If you want to switch to Outlook Express (comes free with Windows) here are the sites for you:

  • Use Outlook Express with AOL (screen shot)
  • Use Outlook Express with browser email Yahoo example (screen shot)
